Tips For Recovering From Brain Surgery

The recovery period after neurosurgery can be rough. However, if you take the time to prepare adequately for it, you will have fewer problems once the surgery is completed, and you are in recovery mode. Here are some things you should do before your surgery to ensure a comfortable recovery.

Clean Your Bed Linens

Before your surgery, clean as many sheets as you can, because you are going to need them. This is because the risk of infection can rise tremendously when you are not regularly changing your sheets and pillowcases after surgery.  Wash as many as you can, and if you don't have enough, buy new ones and then clean them for use.

Stock Up On Pajamas and Loose Pants

After your surgery, you are going to be sleeping a lot. You will be surprised how quickly you may go through clean clothes to sleep in, especially if you don't have someone readily available to wash for you. Stock up on clean pajamas, so you don't run out.

Ensure that you have lots of clean, loose-fitting pants, since you will most likely be put on steroids to combat the pain. Steroids often make your belly swell, so have comfortable pants on hand to wear around the house.

Take Baths

Even if you had not previously been a fan of baths, they are a great for after brain surgery. You get nice and clean with minimum effort and without any chance that water will get on your head. However, if you don't have the facilities to take a bath, just wear a plastic shower cap when you take a shower. You may want to invest in a small waterproof bath stool, because you may get tired in the middle of your shower and need some rest.    

Stock Up On Food

After your surgery, you will not be in the mood to cook. If you are not fortunate enough to have someone to cook for you, then you should cook your meals ahead of surgery, and freeze them. Whenever you are ready to eat, all you will need to do is pop your food into the microwave, and you have a delicious pre-prepared meal. 

Brain surgery can present a lot of fears and challenges. However, it is up to you to ensure that you recover in the shortest possible time. The more prepared you are, the better it will be for you. Follow the tips given in order to make sure you have a speedy and comfortable recovery.
